The forests of the eastern United States harbor some of the most
beautiful and threatened ecosystems on the planet.
These forests provide:
- clean drinking water to nearly one
hundred million people
- recreation to millions
- jobs for thousands
- erosion control
- carbon sequestration
They are a defining part of our history -- the forests in which America
grew up. |
Yet opinion research shows that more Americans are concerned about
protecting tropical rainforests than protecting forests close to home.
The purpose of this message kit is to help advocates and educators
become more effective in communicating the value of Eastern Forests, the
threats these forests face, and the things we must do to save them. We
hope that by employing the recommendations, strategies, and resources
you find here, you will be able to broaden the base of active support
for the protection of Eastern Forests and their spectacular
biodiversity. |
