Our Programs: Public Opinion Research

Public opinion research is a common thread that runs through almost all of the Biodiversity Project's work. A popular misconception in the environmental movement is that everyone else thinks the way we do. On the contrary, sometimes the people we need to move most have very different perceptions and attitudes than the average environmentalist. Public opinion research helps us to understand our audiences and to target those that are most critical to the accomplishment of our goals.

Over the last 12 years the Biodiversity Project has commissioned and helped shape 10 different regional and national public opinion research projects. We work closely with research firms to design focus group questions and surveys that explore critical topics to various environmental issues. Our communications strategies and campaigns, plus our trainings and recommendations for members of the environmental community, are built upon the results of these projects.
