Our Services: Collaborative Communications Campaign Coordination

One of the strengths of the Biodiversity Project is our ability to work with coalitions or networks of organizations sharing similar goals. As we all know, there is strength in numbers, and this is especially true when communicating environmental messages. The Biodiversity Project possesses a unique set of skills that allow us to work with up to 50 organizations at a time and build consensus among the groups in using common messages and complimentary communication tools and pathways.

We are prepared to guide and support your network or coalition in:

  • Conducting, or synthesizing existing, public opinion research to inform your targeted communications efforts.
  • Devising a communications strategy that identifies your goals and objectives and provides a roadmap for achieving them utilizing the strengths of all your members.
  • Crafting unified messages and materials that can be used by all your members.
  • Providing tools and trainings to help your members adopt and adapt messages and materials for their own communications work.
  • Overseeing the implementation of the communications plan by coordinating the work of all members.

An Example of Our Work:
Mississippi River Restoration

The Biodiversity Project is currently coordinating and facilitating the communications efforts of the Mississippi River Network: Headwaters to Gulf, which is a network of 35 organizations focused on protecting and restoring America's greatest river.

The Mississippi River Network hired the Biodiversity Project in 2007 to manage public opinion research on the Mississippi River. The Biodiversity Project worked closely with the public opinion firms: Fairbanks, Mauslin, Mallin & Associates and Public Opinion Strategies to plan focus groups and design a regional survey to assess public perceptions and attitudes regarding the Mississippi River.

The Biodiversity Project coordinated a two-day meeting with the Network's member organizations to disseminate the results from this research and discuss how this research could be incorporated in the Network's communications efforts. Following that meeting the Biodiversity Project worked closely with Network members to develop a communications strategy based on the public opinion research and the restoration goals identified by the Network.

In the spring of 2008 the Biodiversity Project took up the reigns as the Network's coordinator, and in June of 2008, we began organizing the Network's regional campaign. The overarching goal of the campaign is to inspire policy-makers, the agricultural community, and engaged citizens to take action to restore and protect the Mississippi River and the Gulf.

"As one of the lead organizations among 35 non-profits attempting to build a network of diverse groups but with one strong voice, I am impressed with two qualities that the Biodiversity Project brought to our work; passion for the cause and a sense of service to the clients. The people at the Biodiversity Project energized us with their passion but always maintained a sense of service to the network. That is a fine balance to achieve, but they did it very well. It has been a pleasure to work with them."

—Dan McGuiness, National Audubon Society

"The Biodiversity Project provides us with excellent professional environmental communications services and staffing. Biodiversity Project's guidance and expertise has been invaluable as we work to tell the story of America 's greatest river with renewed passion."
